Purchase a Climate Benefit Unit, the Well Done Foundation carbon credit. Each Climate Benefit Unit represents one metric ton of CO2e that has been eliminated as the direct result of plugging an orphaned oil or gas well. Immediate impact, transparent process, at a scale that makes a real difference.
By funding us through carbon credits from a Well Done Foundation (WDF) project, you’re doing more than just offsetting your carbon footprint, you’re actively investing in a cleaner, greener future. Every carbon credit supports the plugging of additional orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells, helping to reduce harmful methane emissions and protect the environment for the next generation.

The Climate Benefit Unit (CBU) is a Registered Trademark of the Well Done Foundation, Inc., a Montana based nonprofit corporation, and represents the removal, capture or elimination of Methane Gas (CH4), equal to one (1) metric ton of Carbon Dioxide (CO2), referred to as a “CO2e”, generated as the specific result of a certified Well Done Foundation Orphaned or Abandoned Well Plugging and Surface Restoration Project.
The Climate Benefit Unit (CBU) was established by the Well Done Foundation in July of 2020 specifically to help fund the plugging of orphaned and abandoned wells across the United States through a market based approach of generating value in the form of a measurable and verifiable unit of Methane Gas (CH4) being kept out of or removed from the atmosphere by the Well Done Foundation.
The Climate Benefit Unit (CBU) is a Carbon Credit that is listed and certified by CarbonPath, a Carbon Registry and is traded or transacted in the form of a non-fungible token or NFT, a unique digital certificate of ownership that is blockchain based. Well Done Foundation Climate Benefit Units (CBU’s) have been validated by a third party verifier for additionality and permanence.
A “Carbon Credit” is the generic term for any tradable unit, typically listed with a Carbon Registry, representing a third party certified offset of one (1) metric ton of Carbon Dioxide or CO2e.
